Assiniboia Community Garden blossoms with $3000 Donation from TD Friends of the
Environment Foundation

- Garden initiative will help educate the community on protecting the local environment -

(July 6, 2009) Assiniboia, SK-Gardening will go beyond your own yard this year, as the Assiniboia Community Garden starts to bloom, thanks in part to a $3000 donation from the local TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TD FEF) chapter.

The garden is a community initiative is designed to improve the quality of life for all community members through education and community participation as they work together to grow food in a natural capacity.

“We are always looking for opportunities to educate people in our community on ways to preserve and protect the environment,” said Don Findlay, Branch Manager TD Canada Trust and local TD FEF Chapter Coordinator. “Our local TD FEF advisory board was able to immediately recognize the environmental and community benefits of supporting this initiative.”

Operated by the Assiniboia Food Security Committee and partnerships between Assiniboia Child Care Services and Assiniboia Community in Bloom, the program is committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and social cohesion.

“The Assiniboia Community Garden is aimed at providing opportunities inclusive of all community members,” said Jeanette Brazeau, Chairperson for the Assiniboia Food Security Committee. “Another integral component to the Community Garden is the development of an ecoshed which will focus on water conservation, solar energy and recyclable materials which is being made possible thanks to a generous grant provided by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation who are making this endeavour a reality.”
